Several school districts have either pushed back their start dates or haven’t announced new ones yet due to the recent flooding.

As of Monday, Lee County Public Schools plans to return to in-person learning on January 11th, 2021.

The West Virginia Education Association is calling on Governor Jim Justice to call for remote learning for schools for the rest of the year.

In a Facebook post, leaders say the move comes after the county returned to the red zone on the state’s COVID-19 incidence rate map this week.

Elliott County was among 80 Kentucky counties (nearly two-thirds of the state) that were red Thursday on the state department of health’s coronavirus metrics map.

A Facebook post from the schools states assignments and instruction will be available daily.

Officials with the school system say the health department is involved.

Officials will re-assess the situation next Thursday.

Floyd County Schools Superintendent Danny Adkins announced that all Floyd County schools would switch to virtual learning for the week of October 26-30.
