Willie Hope

Sports Director, WYMT
Hazard, KY

Sports have been my passion since I was a little kid. I started playing basketball when I was 3 years old. When I was 7 years old I would commentate basketball from the bleachers and use them as my desk. This job is a dream come true and I’m excited to get to know Eastern Kentucky!

I attended Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA as a broadcast and media production major while playing basketball all four years. There I was able to get hands-on experience at our television station. I commentated for and shot NCAA tournament games for the school in addition to playing basketball. I also interned at WHTM in Harrisburg, PA. I went to NASCAR races, high school baseball championships and professional baseball games. I graduated in December of 2017 before finishing the rest of the basketball season. In April, I came down to Hazard for the first time to interview, and I eventually got the job! I started at the beginning of July, 2018.

I've lived in Prince George's County, Maryland my whole life, which is about 20 minutes outside of Washington, DC. I went to high school in Annapolis, MD at St. Mary's High School, where I played basketball and football, as well as ran cross country for two years. Being so close to D.C., I'm a huge D.C. sports fan. (Except for football. Fly Eagles Fly!) However, I love college basketball and I'm excited to cover one of the best college basketball programs in the country at the University of Kentucky!

I’m excited to cover high school and college sports in Eastern Kentucky. I hope to get to know as many people as possible. When I'm not covering sports all over Eastern Kentucky, I'm usually working out, taking a walk or hiking. Come talk to me if you see me out and about! I love getting to know new people!
