Paige Noel

Chief Meteorologist, WYMT
Hazard, KY

In elementary school, I was always fascinated with clouds and loved watching the news any chance I got. April 27th, 2011 was the day I decided I wanted to be a meteorologist. My hometown was hit by a huge hail storm that damaged our roof and parts of our house and fence. I remember being frightened by the storm, but the local meteorologists were the ones that made me feel safe.

In high school, I job-shadowed Heather Haley at WVLT-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee, which further reassured me that broadcast meteorology was what I wanted to study.

I am from a small community outside of Knoxville, Tennessee called Friendsville. I graduated from William Blount High School in 2014. After high school, I attend Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky where I got my meteorology degree. During my time at WKU, I jumped at every opportunity that was given to me. I was lucky enough to intern at WVLT-TV in Knoxville with Heather Haley. I was also one of eight students that were chosen to go on WKU’s Storm Chase trip, which is a course provided by the university. This trip was a one of a kind learning experience that embarked across the Great Plains to study severe weather. During this two-week trip, I was able to practice forecasting some of the world’s most extreme and hazardous weather events. During the last six months of pursuing my degree, I was fortunate enough to land my first job at WNKY-TV where I was the evening weather forecaster.

I’m currently the Chief Meteorologist on the WYMT Weather Team and I could not be more thrilled. I am originally from a small town in the mountains, so Hazard feels like home to me. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. You can also find me watching Friends or The Office on rainy days.
