I am originally from Pickerington, Ohio. My roots, however, extend into Kentucky. My paternal grandparents are from northern Kentucky, and the majority of my extended family still live there. I am awed by the beauty of the mountains in Eastern Kentucky, and I am happy to now call this area my home.
I enjoy science and math, and I gravitated towards those types of classes in high school. I also took a broadcasting class as a random elective, and then... I was hooked! I fell in love with that class, and with the person it brought out in me. I decided to pursue a career as a broadcast meteorologist as a way to merge my interests in science, math, and broadcasting into a career.
I have a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Florida State University with minors in math and physics. During my freshman year, I was fortunate enough to participate in their study abroad program. For an entire year, this somewhat shy Midwest girl was able to travel all over Europe, discovering new people, cultures, climates - and myself. I gained a wanderlust for travel and experiencing new places...but also a new appreciation for home. While at FSU, I was a member of the student-run 4FSU Weather show where I also served as a producer in my junior year. In the summer of my junior year, I interned at WSYX-TV in Columbus, sharpening my forecasting skills and assisting with reporting of stories in and around central Ohio.
During my free time, I love to travel and explore new places. I enjoy being outdoors and hanging out with my friends, but I am also happy just relaxing at home with puzzles or board games and watching old Marvel movies.
I am excited to be a member of the WYMT Weather Team and look forward to serving our Eastern Kentucky viewers. You can follow me on Facebook at Brooke Marshall WYMT or on Twitter @BrookeWYMT.
