I grew up on the East Coast in Connecticut and had my first experiences with sports journalism in high school, serving as the sports editor for my school newspaper. The first sports story I ever covered was about an exchange student who took up hurdling during her time in America. Since then, I have been hooked on telling the stories of athletes and surrounding myself with the energy that sports venues and sports fans create.
While I was born in Connecticut, both of my parents and my brother attended the University of Kentucky, so I found myself at Kroger Field and inside Rupp Arena during many college visits and Thanksgiving breaks. Being able to attend UK football games and basketball games as a child was what sealed the deal for me in deciding I wanted to be a sports journalist. The basketball hype videos echoing off the walls of Rupp gave me chills at every game I attended. The die-hardness and loyalty of UK football fans made me feel a part of something special. These were two feelings I wanted to experience for the rest of my life.
After these experiences in Lexington, I decided to go to college at Indiana University for sports journalism where I covered the IU women’s basketball team extensively. I also covered the historic men’s soccer program, several baseball and softball games and several men’s basketball games. I worked with several outlets at IU including the school newspaper, Indiana University Student Television and Big Ten Network Student Union.
My time as a Hoosier prepared me well for my next journey in the mountains. I am honored and excited to be able to cover the beloved high school sports programs here in Eastern Kentucky. I am equally thrilled to follow the Cats and get back inside Rupp and Kroger Field.
