Armando Barry

Sports Reporter/Anchor, WYMT
Hazard, Ky.

I grew up in Waco, Texas and graduated from Waco High School in 2019. From watching the NBA Finals on my mom’s couch and playing basketball at the YMCA basketball court across the street from our house, I found my love for sports.

I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of North Texas in Denton. I had never stepped in front of a camera until I came on campus and registered to become a part of the student-run campus news station, North Texas Television.

This organization became my college adventure where I got the opportunity to spend all four years of undergrad traveling across the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex as their sports anchor and reporter, as well as other positions around the newsroom.

During my time in DFW, I also got to hone my skills on high school sidelines for 3 years doing freelance sideline reporting for Game On Sports, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, and Friday Night Glory. It was during this time that I got to interview several, highly touted student-athletes before beginning their college and professional careers like the Utah Jazz’s Keyonte George at iSchool of Lewisville and former Kentucky Wildcat and now Oklahoma City Thunder Cason Wallace at Richardson High School.

I made my jump from Dallas to Hazard to join the WYMT sports team in June 2023. In my free time, I enjoy reading, exercising, and checking out some of the local restaurants. I am very new to the area, so if you catch me around, don't be afraid to say hello!

I look forward to getting to know new people from the sidelines and telling the stories of Eastern Kentucky athletes.
