Kirstin Baum

I’ve spent most of my life in Knott County, and I have fond memories of watching WYMT right before it was time to get on the bus for school, especially when I hoped for a snow day.

I’ve always had a passion for media production. I remember writing movie scripts, making up my own stories, and imagining what it would be like to see those aired on the big screen or in the living room.

That passion followed me when I graduated from Knott County Central High School in 2017 and packed up to attend Morehead State University. I joined the MSU-TV team and took on a good amount of production roles during my college career, including Technical Director and then Director of the station’s newscast, NewsCenter.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Convergent Media from MSU in November of 2020, like many fresh graduates at the time, I didn’t know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go.

However, that changed when I was given the opportunity to become a member of the WYMT Mountain News This Morning team in May 2021, a team I now call my friends.
