HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The Harlan County Black Bears have a new head coach.

Harlan County Public Schools announced Tuesday that Kyle Jones will be the new head coach of the HC boys basketball team.

Kyle Jones succeeds his brother Michael Jones, who resigned last month after eight seasons at the helm.

“It’s a dream come true. I grew up in a basketball family and have been around it all my life,” Jones told Harlan County Sports.com in an interview. “An opportunity presenting itself like this is once in a lifetime for me, especially in the town I grew up in.”

In the article referenced above, we’re told Jones played for his father at Harlan High School, scoring nearly 1,100 points in his four-year career there as a starter. He played on HHS’ last regional championship team in 1996 and was a member of the squad in 1999 when the team lost to Clay County in the regional finals.

He will be the third Black Bears head boys basketball coach in school history.

This is Jones’ first high school head coaching job.
