‘Totally unacceptable. Inappropriate. Shouldn’t happen’: Gov. Beshear and Lt. Gov. Coleman react to Hazard High School Homecoming event

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Governor Andy Beshear spoke about the incident during his Team Kentucky update on Thursday.

“Totally unacceptable. Inappropriate. Shouldn’t happen,” he said. “They need to be talking to these students. That this isn’t something that is normalized in their mind, that they think is ok in school.”

In reference to the ongoing investigation and possible disciplinary actions taken through the school system, Gov. Beshear had this to say:

“I think what that action is ought to be public, since the issue is so public. I say that knowing a couple of the folks. I think that they will learn from it too.”

Several parents have said they upset about inappropriate actions at an assembly at Hazard High School.

Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman also gave WYMT a statement following the events at Hazard High School.

“I have seen reports but I will tell you that the Department of Education has been in talks with the officials at Hazard. I know there is an investigation ongoing,” she said. “My hope is that we can work together to get to the bottom of it and that we have the results that at the end of the day that fit what the findings are.”
