LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The wife and legal secretary of the Lawrence County Attorney accused of federal fraud charges pleaded not guilty in court Friday afternoon.

Joy M. Hogan’s court appearance follows that of her husbands on Wednesday, after a recently unsealed federal indictment revealed Joy and her husband Michael T. Hogan were indicted on several federal fraud charges.

Joy was charged with a single count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud; while Michael faces that charge alongside a further nine counts of wire fraud and five counts of federal program theft.

The indictment alleges that Joy received more than $365,000 from Michael through a second tax account from the Lawrence County Attorney’s Office between March 8, 2013, and April 30, 2020.

Joy is scheduled for a jury trial on Aug. 16 at 10 a.m.

She and Michael both could receive up to 20 years in prison and a fine of no more than $250,000 or twice the amount of gain or loss if convicted. Meanwhile Michael could face an additional fine of no more than $250,000 for federal program theft charges, and potentially another 10 years in prison.
