Scattered showers continue through Friday, drier air by this weekend
HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Scattered showers and storms continue to move through the mountains. Thankfully, there is light at the end of the tunnel with drier air settling into our area by this weekend.
Tonight through Friday night
Another warm, muggy evening is in store for our area. Scattered showers and storms will continue, but most should begin to fade away after sunset. We will have to keep an eye out for more patchy fog through the overnight hours. Temperatures bottom out in the lower-70s with mostly cloudy skies.
This “rinse and repeat” forecast continues into Friday. Warm, humid air will set the stage for more showers and storms during the peak heating of the afternoon. Some of these storms could pack a punch with torrential rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Severe weather is not likely, but we will have to watch out for some localized flooding, especially if multiple storms move over the same area. High temperatures will range from the upper-70s to lower-80s.
The chance for showers and storms will continue into Friday night. Again, patchy fog will be an issue for some of us through the overnight hours. Another warm night is on tap with low temperatures in the upper-60s to lower-70s.
This unsettled weather pattern starts to change just in time for the weekend. Rain chances begin to decrease, but the mercury begins to climb. Sunshine returns to the mountains for Saturday. A mix of sun and clouds is likely with only a small chance of an afternoon shower. High temperatures will soar into the mid-80s.
Sunday will be another warm day. We could see high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s. A mix of sun and clouds will continue with only a small chance of a passing shower. A weak front is expected to pass through our region which could finally push that muggy, sticky air out of the mountains as we go into next week.
This mostly dry weather will continue into the next work week. We’re expecting plenty of sunshine on Monday. It will be another warm day with temperatures in the mid-80s, but humidity values should be lower. Another front is expected to sweep through the mountains on Tuesday. This could set off a shower or two, but most of us remain dry with plenty of sunshine.
Behind this front, our temperature and humidity values take another tumble. By midweek, our weather is looking gorgeous! Mostly sunny skies with high temperatures staying in the mid-70s and lower humidity.
