JACKSON, Ky. (WYMT) - The closure of KY-2026 in Powell County, previously scheduled to begin on June 14th, has been pushed back one week to June 21st due to the availability of beams needed for construction of a new Red River bridge.

Officials say drivers who used Pompeii Road (or KY 2026) in Clay City will need to find an alternate route. Pompeii Road will be closed between Main Street (KY-11/KY-15) and Fife Lick Road for up to 60 days in order to replace a bridge crossing the Red River and to correct flooding issues along a low-lying section of the highway.

KYTC officials will be posting a signed detour involving KY-11/KY-15 and KY 2073 through Stanton. The new bridge is expected to be open to traffic by August 12, though more way may be needed after the roadway reopens.

The current bridge was built in 1965 and has been classified as “structurally deficient” The project will also raise the roadbed in the area to alleviate flooding issues.
