MAC to host movie screenings starting in May
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - For years, the people of Prestonsburg have been without a movie theater, but the Mountain Arts Center seeks to change that.
The MAC recently erected a 30-foot wide, 20-foot tall screen as part of a project that has been four years in the making.
“We had been planning this for at least four years,” said Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton. “When this opportunity arose, we jumped at it.”
The MAC, which is partnered with Prestonsburg Tourism, plans to host movie screenings for locals and tourists alike.
“We’re going to start scheduling movies,” said Stapleton. “We expect to show 20 to 40 movies per year.”
With screenings planned as early as mid-May, officials say they’re trying to keep everyone safe by following CDC guidelines. This allows for plenty of family fun in a safe environment for all to enjoy.
“We feel that it’s needed for sure,” said MAC Executive Director Joe Campbell. “We have so many people that need more things to do and movies always come into the discussion.”
