BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - 6 members of the Bowling Green Fire Department have returned back to southcentral Kentucky after spending 5 days in Eastern Kentucky.

13 News spoke with Bowling Green Fire Department Captain Craig White about helping the eastern side of our student and lending a hand when the area was in need.

“It gives you a little bit more sense of gratification knowing that and they appreciate it to knowing that you’ve traveled and, or sacrificing time with our families--just kind of roughing it for a little while with them, I think means a lot to those people. And then it makes us feel good,” said White. “And then it makes us feel good. It just it is it’s really gratifying. And it’s kind of what we do. We like trying to give back and, and help people out in their worst days. And those people they’re really having some of their worst days over there right now.”

Craig says when crews first arrived in Lawerence County, the area they were working on had 5,000 people without power. Craig says near their last day being in Eastern Kentucky nearly half of the outages were restored.

“A lot of the side roads, when we got there were still either completely impassable,” said White.
