UPDATE: Police release names of people involved in fatal crash near Perry/Knott County line

Update 1/6/2021 1:26 p.m.
HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - A car crash involving two cars left one woman dead Tuesday evening in the Sassafras Community of Knott County.
During the police investigation, they determined that 32-year-old Sasha Hoover, who was operating a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, crossed the center line and drove into oncoming traffic. Hoover collided into a 2009 Toyota Tacoma, that was driven by 63-year-old Sandra Hammock.
Hammock’s passenger, 55-year-old Georgia Adams, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hammock was taken to Hazard A.R.H and later transferred to the U.K Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.
Hoover was transported to Whitesburg A.R.H and was later released.
Toxicology reports are pending.

Kentucky State Police say Highway 15 is back open after a fatal crash near the Perry/Knott County line Tuesday evening.

Kentucky State Police say that Highway 15 is shut down due to a fatal crash near the Knott/Perry County line.
Police have confirmed to WYMT that one person has died.
The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Two vehicles were involved.
Vicco-Sassafras Volunteer Fire and Rescue posted on Facebook to avoid Highway 15 near Lakeview Dairy Bar. The post goes on to say the roadway will be “shut down for an extended period of time.”
Police are still on scene and we are waiting for more information.
