LEXINGTON, Ky (WYMT) - It's almost time for the first home football game of the season for the Kentucky Wildcats.
The offense had its ups and downs in week one against Southern Miss, and offensive coordinator Eddie Gran realizes this weekend's game against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels is going to be a tough one.
Gran said, "They're coached really well, first of all. They run to the ball, they swarm. Their backers are downhill, they'll get in the midline of you and it's hard to get off on combination blocks, and they do a great job. You know it's, this game isn't about them at all, it's about us. This game is totally about us."
Two years ago the Colonels almost stole one from the Wildcats in Kroger Field as EKU forced an overtime game that saw UK win by 7 points.
Some of the players from that team are gone. But, some of them remain, and for those players left on the Colonel roster, they feel like that was a game that slipped away from them.
This weekend presents a fresh opportunity to play on the big stage.
Aaron Patrick, an EKU defensive end, said, "It's always fun being on a bigger stage, and me personally, Tim wasn't here the last time we played them but I was here, and like I said before I feel like they got one from us, we lost in overtime last time. So, it will be fun to go back there and go back at it again with them."
