Williamsburg, KY – The Patriot Women’s Basketball team returned to Mid-South Conference play on Monday as they hosted the Tigers of Campbellsville University. UC would struggle from the floor for the entirety of the game as the Tigers would come away with a 20 point win over the Patriots 57-37. The loss moves the Patriots to 10-6 overall on the season and 2-2 in MSC action.
The first quarter began and the Patriots looked uneasy on the floor, going just 2-12 from the field. Campbellsville took advantage and jumped ahead for a 12-7 lead at the end of the quarter. In the second, it was much of the same for the Patriots as they could only muster two points in the frame, going 1-9 from the floor while accumulating ten turnovers. The Tigers would continue to push forward, holding a 26-9 advantage at the half.
The third quarter saw the Patriots look much better defensively as they blocked five Tiger shots and tallied a steal, but threes by the Tigers would keep them out in front 38-18. Both teams would look alive in the fourth quarter as they traded baskets for much of the period, scoring 19 points each as the Tigers would press forward for the 58-38 win over the Patriots.
UC was led on the night by Cheyenne Madden with 10 points and seven rebounds. Sarah Kelton added nine points, two rebounds, two blocks, two assists, and two steals. As a team, the Patriots shot just 27.1% from the field and 3-20 from beyond the three point arc. The Tigers used their depth in the game, scoring 34 points off the bench in the win over the Patriots.
The Patriot ladies return to action on Thursday, January 12th as they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to take on the Phoenix of Cumberland University. Tipoff is set for 7 pm eastern time.
