Jacqueline Kestner joins Women's basketball staff

WISE - Head Coach Jamie Cluesman announced the addition of Jacqueline Kestner to her women's basketball coaching staff at UVa-Wise Tuesday. Kestner comes to the College after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at Lincoln Memorial University; in her new role, the coach will serve as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the Cavaliers.

"I have a great deal of respect for her as a coach and as a person, she has a tremendous amount of energy and passion for the game of basketball and is an outstanding recruiter with strong ties in the area," Cluesman mentioned about her new assistant. "In addition to being a strong recruiter, she does an outstanding job with player development and establishing lasting relationships with the student-athletes."

A native of Blountville, Tenn., Kestner was a four-year letter winner at Sullivan Central High School where she earned All-Big 8 Conference honors in all four of her prep seasons.

Following her high school career, she was recruited by Cluesman to play collegiately at Concord University. With the Mountain Lions, Kestner was a three-year starter as she compiled 853 points, 649 rebounds, 136 steals and 26 blocks. As a senior, she earned All-MEC Second-Team acclaim after leading Concord with 12.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. She finished her career eighth in Concord history in rebounding and ninth in steals.

At the conclusion of her playing career, Kestner served as an assistant at Concord before moving on to the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown to further her coaching career. With the Mountain Cats, she assisted in planning and organizing team travel while overseeing strength and conditioning workouts. Additionally, the coach assisted in recruited efforts along with perimeter and post player skill workouts.

After a year at Pitt-Johnstown, Kestner moved back to her home state of Tennessee to serve as a graduate assistant at LMU. With the Railsplitters, she was part of a program that posted a 28-5 record and a 19-3 mark in South Atlantic competition en route to a regular season title and a berth in the Sweet 16.

Responsible for player development and academic success in addition to scouting and game preparation of opponents, Kestner also assisted with all areas of recruiting for LMU.

"I have known Jacqueline for seven years from when I recruited her out of high school to her time as an assistant at Concord University," Cluesman stated. "I am excited to have her join our staff and look forward to her positive presence on the court, in the community and in the athletic department as a whole. We are lucky to have Coach Kestner join us as part of the UVa-Wise basketball family."

The coach obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from Concord before adding a master's degree in business administration from LMU. She will begin work immediately.
