PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Workers at the ninth annual Kids Fest in Pineville gave out over 300 pairs of shoes and backpacks filled with school supplies to local families. The event was put on by New Heights church and Main Street Pineville.

“What we've done is we've accumulated these backpacks, we've accumulated these shoes, soles for souls have gotten on board and has helped us tremendously I think they've given us 150 pairs," said Mark Elkins, New Height Church’s pastor.

Brandi Houston and her family attended the event. She said that events like the Kids Fest not only give her family a day together but helps her kids see the community.

"It gives them a sense of community, it lets them see that everybody is out here having fun and that they can come out and enjoy themselves just as much as anybody else,” Houston.

Elkins said that his church hosts the event to reach the community as a whole, but seeing the smile on just one kid's face makes all the work worth it.

"There's some child, boy or girl, and they'll say this thing inevitably, they'll say this was the best day of my life,” said Elkins.
