WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - People walking by the historic Daniel Boone Hotel in downtown Whitesburg recently may have caught a glimpse of the hotel's latest guests.
Though the old building is under renovation, a swarm of termites did not seem to mind.
Medra Blair Bowen posted on Facebook a video of the termites coating a hotel wall and the sidewalk next to it.
"Something has to be done now with the old Daniel Boone building," Bowen writes in her post. "This is what our customers and people walking down the street is dealing with. Pretty bad when the termites come out in swarms."
Bowen owns Blair Insurance Agency, and her office is next door to the historic hotel.
"The girls at the office called last week and so did the flower shop but nothing was done until I put it on Facebook," Bowen says. "Then they sprayed outside."
Whitesburg Mayor Craft tells WYMT termite swarms are common around old structures this time of year. Craft says the bugs have not damaged the Daniel Boone Hotel, and have not moved to other buildings to his knowledge.
Bowen is not as confident that the termites will not spread to the nearby buildings.
"They sprayed the outside but I'm sure that didn't take care of the inside. I'm so afraid that they will get in my building," Bowen worries.
