UPDATE: West Virginia bank robber caught in Kentucky, identified

LOUISA, Ky. (WYMT) - A man who robbed a bank in West Virginia was chased down and arrested in Louisa Friday.

Police received a call from Inez Deposit Bank that a man wearing a black jacket with a hood covering his face tried to open the door. The man took off running when he found the door was locked.

Bank employees say they saw the man get into a white SUV and drive towards Hwy 2565.

Officials say the man later robbed the Community Trust Bank in Fort Gay at gunpoint. Wayne County deputies chased the man into Kentucky, where more officers joined the pursuit.

Police say the SUV swerved between lanes, once nearly hitting a Kentucky State Police trooper head-on. The man threw money out the window for four miles.

When the SUV stopped, officials had no problems arresting Steve Meeks. Meeks told police he had shot up heroin, and said he would shoot them if he had a gun.

Money was recovered from the SUV and Hwy 1690.

Meeks was charged with first-degree robbery, evading police, wanton endangerment, reckless driving and other charges.
