MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WYMT) - Police arrested a man accused of stabbing a Bell County man.
Harold V. Hatfield faces an assault charge. Police are keeping him in the Claiborne County Jail in Tennessee. They will soon move him to the Bell County Detention Center.
According to Middlesboro Police, James Vaught was attacked at his home in Middlesboro on the morning of April 12, and Harold V. Hatfield (AKA VonRoyce Hatfield) was identified as the suspect.
Police said Vaught and his wife were alerted by their dog that someone was outside their home on Wednesday. When Vaught opened the door to investigate, police say Hatfield attacked him, stabbing him at least three times. After a brief struggle, police say Hatfield ran off.
Hatfield was identified as a suspect early on in the investigation. After more evidence was collected, a warrant was issued for Hatfield’s arrest Friday on a first degree assault charge.
Police say Hatfield lives in the same neighborhood as Vaught, but investigators determined he left Middlesboro the day of the attack.
