JACKSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - 6 p.m. Update
We still don't know how Jesse Messer knew the people who lived in the home. Kentucky State Police say it all started as an argument between two people, then a third person showed up with a gun.
33-year-old Jesse Messer is facing a murder charge. Kentucky State Police say he came to a home on Old Island City Road around 11:30 Monday night because of a domestic dispute between a couple.
Police say when Messer arrived, he allegedly got into a confrontation with the husband who at that point, was in a car. Police say Messer allegedly shot that man, killing him.
According to court records, the woman who lives there had filed an emergency protective order against her husband earlier this month. Those records say that order was dismissed Tuesday, the reason was the respondent was killed.
We are not releasing the name of the victim yet because police say they are still trying to ensure all of his next to kin have been notified.
"There's a lot of components we're looking at but the initial evidence indicated there's enough probable cause for a charge of murder and tampering with physical evidence," said Kentucky State Trooper Robert Purdy.
The tow truck driver who came and got the car that man was shot in said he dropped the car off at the Kentucky State Police post in Richmond where it is being processed for evidence.
