HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Attention all current and former high school band members!
A community band is forming in Hazard. The ensemble will feature instruments such as drums, trombones, flutes, saxophones and any other instrument played in a high school band. If you currently play in a high school band or used too many years ago then you qualify!
"You don't have to be a music major in a college, or do music for a living to have music be a part of your life forever," said Jordan Riddell, Planning Committee Member, Community Band.
The community band is open to those who are just learning to play, "If you're in high school, you get to meet older people and get to see how music has helped them throughout their lives and careers, even if they didn't do music for a living," Riddell said.
It is also open to those who have not played an instrument in years.
"If you had friends from high school band that you don't get to see very often and you enjoy those moments, it's a chance to kind of relive that, you get to do it again," said Riddell.
Organizers say they are hoping to form a harmony between the amateurs and the pros.
"If a kid is in high school and they're thinking of maybe making music their career, they can find someone to latch onto in that ensemble that is part of their region and they can pick-up skills and other sorts of information from them," Jake East, Founder, Community Band said.
The community band is open to all skill levels and is currently hoping to recruit 40 to 60 members.
