PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Many in the community are remembering Delmer Ray Akers, 72-years-old, who was dedicated to serving the community.

Akers was a pastor, marine, coal miner and volunteer with the Pike County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Rodney Scott says he was hard working and loved lending a helping hand.

"Delmer was just a fine, outstanding (man)," Scott said. "He is going to be sadly missed not only here but in the community and in the county."

Akers passed away Friday morning surrounded by family. His funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Thacker, West Virginia.
