WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The Whitley County Sheriff's Office ended up not only arresting a man who reportedly stole a Mustang, but also the victim who reported the car missing.
Orlando Luna and Ethan Powers
Police say a man contacted them around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, saying someone took his Mustang at gunpoint. The responding deputy saw Mustang coming the other way on Kentucky 904 and turned around to follow it.
Deputies ended up arresting 23-year-old Ethan Powers. According to deputies, they found drugs and cash in the Mustang.
"He was taken into custody. We found Clonazapam, $450 in cash, baggies, and digital weighing scales," said Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.
Police say they spoke with the Mustang's owner, 33-year-old Orlando Luna, to see if anything else in the car belonged to him. According to police, Luna claimed possession of two cell phones in the car. Deputies later determined that the phones belonged to Powers.
"Claimed ownership of a phone, an iPhone, which was in the vehicle. He momentarily took possession of the iPhone then he discovered it belonged to the accused," said Sheriff Harrell.
Police charged Powers with fleeing and evading police, receiving stolen property, and possession of controlled substances.
Luna was also arrested because police say he was in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
