HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - The annual Black Gold Festival begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.
Committee members say they are excited for old and new traditions this year.
"We're out here just setting up our tents and stuff getting ready for the presentation we do every year down here at the Black Gold Festival," said Gary Begley.
Begley is part of the Leatherwood Civil War Reenactment. He said the festival is a time for people to see what Eastern Kentucky can offer.
"It brings people from out of the area and lets them come and see what we've got showcased," said Begley.
While some things may become a yearly tradition, you will also find some new attractions to enjoy.
There will be free laser tag for kids and a dog show this year.
One committee member said the festival is a great place to meet new people and spend time with loved ones.
"It's kind of like a homecoming, just seeing people that you don't always see, friends that you might not see throughout the year. People come back home," said Nikki Begley.
There will be a parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. during the festival.
